Celine Dion’s sister has provided an update on the Canadian songstresses ongoing journey with Stiff Person’s Syndrome following the cancellation of her Courage World Tour.
Speaking to Le Journal de Montreal, Dion’s sister Claudette shared that the 55-year-old has been working with “the top researchers in the field of this rare disease as much as possible” however, they have been unable to find “any medicine that works.”
The My Heart Will Go On singer previously postponed her tour in December 2022.
(Image: Getty)“I honestly think that she mostly needs to rest. She always goes above and beyond. She always tries to be the best and top of her game… At one point, your heart and your body are trying to tell you something. It’s important to listen to it,” Claudette continued.
This latest update comes just over two months since Dion announced the cancellation of her Courage World Tour as a result of complications relating to her Stiff Person’s Syndrome; a rare neurological condition that causes chronic pain, muscle rigidity, and impaired mobility.
“It is with tremendous disappointment that we have to announce today the cancellation of the Courage World Tour,” read the statement, with this latest announcement coming just over six months after Dion announced the postponement of her Spring 2023 tour dates.
“Unfortunately, these [muscle] spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk, and not allowing me to use my vocal chords to sing the way I used to,” Dion said previously.
The singer announced that she had been diagnosed with Stiff Person’s Syndrome in December 2022.
(Image: Getty)Sadly, despite Dion’s best efforts, her previous official statement suggested that her condition has not appeared to improve, stating, “Celine has continued to be treated for a diagnosed medical condition that prevents her from performing. Celine is working hard on her recovery, but at this time is unable to successfully prepare for and perform the remainder of the tour.”
Speaking on her tour cancellation, Dion expressed her sincere apologies to fans, writing, “I’m so sorry to disappoint all of you once again. I’m working really hard to build back my strength, but touring can be very difficult even when you’re 100%.”
“It’s not fair to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it’s best that we cancel everything now until I’m ready to be back on stage again,” she added.
The announcement received an outpouring of love and support from her fans. “We love you Celine, take good care of yourself. Your health is the most important and precious thing. We are praying for your healing,” commented one fan.
Despite the setback, Dion is determined to take to the stage again, telling fans, “I want you all to know, I’m not giving up, and I can’t wait to see you again!”
