Are Beyonce and Duchess Meghan about to become the ultimate power friendship?

If so, this is taking girl power to another level.

From Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts to Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King, we love a good, wholesome female friendship. And after Wednesday night’s BRIT Awards, we think we may have found our new favourite.

After receiving the award for International Group as The Carters, Beyonce Knowles and her husband Jay Z appeared in a pre-recorded message with one of our favourite royals in a very regal looking portrait.

Hanging on the wall behind them was a picture of none other than Duchess Meghan, who at that moment was celebrating her baby shower in New York City.

“Thank you so much to the BRIT Awards for this incredible honour. You guys have always been so supportive, everything is love. Thank you,” Beyonce said to the camera holding their statuette before the couple turned to face Meghan’s portrait.

She also shared a collection of photos on her Instagram, explaining why she chose to honour the royal mum-to-be.

“In honor of Black History Month, we bow down to one of our Melanated Monas,” she wrote. “Congrats on your pregnancy! We wish you so much joy,” she penned.

It’s safe to say the music icon is a fan of the Duchess of Sussex and when Beyonce likes you, you know you’re doing something right. And when we think about it, these two ladies have a few things in common.

For starters, they are both big fans of the F-word: feminism that is. Beyonce has empowered women all over the world with her music and with each album has made it clear that it is possible to be strong and sexy.

Speaking to Elle about her decision to include the definition of feminist in her song Flawless and on her tour, Queen Bey said it was to “give clarity to the true meaning,” rather than for propaganda.

“I’m not really sure people know or understand what a feminist is, but it’s very simple. It’s someone who believes in equal rights for men and women. I don’t understand the negative connotation of the word, or why it should exclude the opposite sex.”

And we all know that before Meghan was part of the royal family, she was campaigning for equal rights for men and women.

Feminism isn’t the only political cause both women have spoken out about.

Meghan, whose mother Doria Ragland is of African-American heritage, previously opened up about how her mixed race posed somewhat of an identity crisis for her in her teens but has since come to embrace it.

“To say who I am, to share where I’m from, to voice my pride in being a strong, confident mixed-race woman. That when asked to choose my ethnicity in a questionnaire as in my seventh grade class, or these days to check ‘Other,’ I simply say: ‘Sorry, world, this is not Lost and I am not one of The Others. I am enough exactly as I am,'” she wrote for Elle in 2015.

Similarly, Beyonce has celebrated her heritage through supporting the #BlackLivesMatter movement with her husband and described her show-stopping performance at Coachella 2018 as “a celebration of all the people who sacrificed more than we could ever imagine, who moved the world forward so that it could welcome a woman of colour to headline such a festival”.

But the definitive piece of evidence that makes us think Mrs Carter and Mrs Sussex will get on like a house on fire comes from Meghan herself.

Back when she was a Suits star living in the US, Duchess Meghan shared a picture on her now extinct Instagram page of herself against a brick wall with a bottle of hot sauce poking out of her bag, alluding to lyrics from Beyonces’ hit Formation.

“The closest I will ever come to channeling @Beyonce #hotsauceinmybagswag #actually #just #hotsauceinmybag,” she penned in the post.

Regardless of whether they actually become friends or not, Beyonce isn’t the only A-lister who’s come out swinging in support of Meghan.

Hollywood heavyweight George Clooney, whose wife Amal even threw Meghan’s baby shower, defended the duchess in the wake of more negative press about her, even comparing Duchess Meghan’s treatment to that of her late mother-in-law Princess Diana.

“She’s a woman who is seven months pregnant and she has been pursued and vilified and chased in the same way that Diana was and it’s history repeating itself,” the actor said.

“We’ve seen how that ends. I can’t tell you how frustrating that is, just seeing them broadcast a letter from a daughter to a father, she’s getting a raw deal there and I think it’s irresponsible and I’m surprised by that.”

We’ll just sit here and wait for Megs to pop up on Bey’s Instagram in the flesh…
