The world’s safest cities have been revealed and it’s not what we expected

Switzerland makes an appearance 3 times in the top 9 safest cities in the world, but it's not number 1.

A new study of crime levels in over 334 countries around the world has ranked Abu Dhabi in the UAE as the safest city in the world.

Website Numbeo conducted the study by comparing user generated data and compiling an index of low to high crime rates in major cities around the world.

Abu Dhabi took out the top spot and was closely followed by Basel in Switzerland, Munich in Germany and Singapore in Singapore.

Switzerland had three cities listed in the top nine safest including (as well as Basel, mentioned above), Bern and Zurich.

The website gave Abu Dhabi a ranking of 94 per cent for a general feeling of safety in the city. This win follows another from a recent Ipsos City Index, which placed Abu Dhabi as the second-best city in the world to live, work and do business.

HE Saif Saeed Ghobash, Director General, TCA of Abu Dhabi explained he’s not at all surprised the city came out on top in the indices.

“Abu Dhabi has a solid reputation for safety with a virtually crime-free society. “

“It is a priority when choosing a city to visit or live in and provides peace of mind knowing that you can feel safe anywhere you go in Abu Dhabi.”

“The result of this index supports Abu Dhabi’s position as the leading city in the world to live, work and do business in, and highlights an aspect of life in Abu Dhabi that is a matter of great pride to all residents.”
