Our favourite royals share an undying love for bold colours and have mastered the art of styling vibrant hues with their signature class.

While hot pinks, electric blues, and bright yellows pop up at events throughout the year, there is one colour that they rarely touch, but when they do, it’s magic.

The controversial colour is orange in all its variations, and it turns out there is a reason why royals are hesitant to wear it.

According to The Sun, the British Royal family are under a strict protocol that dictates only two royal mothers can wear orange.

However, the other more common reason is it doesn’t photograph well, and for royals with pale complexion, it can wash them out.

Luckily, that’s a problem a healthy dose of bronzer can fix.

Even though the British royals have strict rules about orange, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and the Queen have both proved styling the bold colour is easy.

Kate prefers to wear softer shades or a pop of orange with her basics, but Queen Elizabeth likes to bring zest to events with electric iterations of the colour.

Princess Mary has also made Orange her friend, from showing up to formal events in eye-catching gowns to making headlines for incorporating it into her casual workwear.

Aside from royal rules around the colour, it’s easy to see why most people tread carefully when daring to wear it.

But royals prove that with a bit of confidence and smart styling, it’s easy to embrace orange.

In the gallery below, we have compiled every time the royals have made a leap of faith and nailed it!
