Princess Mary’s secret past: her first Aussie love revealed

Back before Mary was swept off her feet by Prince Frederik, she had a passionate relationship with a home-grown Aussie hunk.

Now, according to a Danish newspaper, the controversial new telemovie set to disclose all the details of Mary’s past will also reveal all about the Aussie ex-boyfriend who was her first great love.

Brent Annells, 43, was Mary’s boyfriend from 1991 until 1998, and the Tasmanian-born beauty, now 42, and her then beau – also born in Hobart – enjoyed an intense seven-year courtship.

While she remained tight-lipped about her Aussie love, Brent has been much more open with his feelings for the princess.

“She’s a fantastic person,” Brent said in an interview with a Tasmanian newspaper.

“She’s very genuine, smart, honest and down-to-earth and I think the way she has been embraced by the Danish royal family is a clear reflection of that.”

Despite revealing the exes had remained “good friends”, you couldn’t help but think that for Brent, Mary was the one who got away. While he was invited to the royal wedding, he didn’t attend, in order to avoid the spotlight.

Instead, he sent his good wishes to the happy couple. “I wish her and her partner every happiness,” he said at the time.

Now, with a royal telemovie pending, the world will get the chance to learn about the special man who first stole Mary’s heart.
