Dressed in an elegant cream gown the four-month-old son of Prince Carl Philip of Sweden sat atop his mother Princess Sofia’s lap for the pictures.

The weekend’s royal event was a traditional celebration with a church service being held at Drottningholm Palace Church in Sweden on Friday followed by a small reception with invited guests.

As is tradition, Prince Alexander – who was born in April this year – wore the same christening gown that was worn by his father, and first worn by Prince Gustaf Adolf in 1906.

While the tiny prince’s gown was an heirloom he perfectly matched his mother’s stunning white broderie anglaise dress.

Prince Alexander officially has five godparents in total. Carl Philip’s older sister and the future queen of Sweden, Crown Princess Victoria, Sofia’s sister Lina Frejd and Sofia’s childhood pal, Wendy Larsson were all appointed as godmothers. As for godfathers, Carl Philip’s best friend, Jan-Åke Hansson and the prince’s first cousin, Victor Magnuson were named.
