Rihanna, pop rocks and dancing Kings? This definitely wasn't your average royal wedding.

Usually when we think of royal weddings, we think of magnificent tiaras, stunning ball gowns and regal guests on red carpets.

But, NASCAR-driving Prince Carl Philip and his lingerie-model-cum-reality-tv-show-contestant bride, Sofia Hellqvist, aren’t exactly your run of the mill royal couple.

The handsome duo, who celebrated their nuptials over the weekend, definitely had a royal wedding planned – but they weren’t going to play by anyone else’s rules.

The Prince and Ms Hellqvist, now Princess Sofia, started the night off traditionally – she wore a lace dress and tiara, he wore his military uniform – but as soon as we heard the opening chords to Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’ playing over the speakers, we knew we were in for a ride.

And what a ride it was.

The couple followed ‘Umbrella’ with a soulful cover of Coldplay’s ‘Fix You’, to which the bride and groom walked the aisle together.

In front of a background of roses, the couple kicked off their reception with a playlist of dance tracks and modern ballads.

Forgoing the traditional 11-tiered wedding cake, the royal baker revealed that the handsome Prince secretly requested that the chef bake Pop Rocks into the cake – without anybody knowing.

The result, as you can imagine, was the unsuspecting Kings and Queens of Europe erupting into squeals and laughter when the wedding cake suddenly popped and crackled in their mouths.

Yes – that is Prince Carl Philip cutting his cake with a sword.

But that wasn’t the last of Carl Philip and Sofia’s fun. From there, the royals headed from the Royal Chapel to the Palace, where the real fun began.

Serenaded by pop artists, Icona Pop (the newlyweds danced and shouted to their hit, ‘I Love It’) and DJ Avicii, the guests danced and drank until 5:30 in the morning.

Clockwise from top left: Queen Silvia of Sweden belting out an Avicii song, Prince Carl Philip gettin’ his groove on, Princess Sofia tossing her garter, and the groom celebrating with his new wife.

Even King Carl Gustav (dancing in the video above) and his wife, Queen Silvia, got their groove on.

No wonder a pregnant Princess Madeleine went into labour the next day.
