Officially hopping on board with the social media trend, the Queen was visiting the Science Museum in London to open an exhibition about the Information Age. Symbolically, the Queen proved that even she can’t escape the information age!
Queen Elizabeth finds selfies “disconcerting”
It’s not the first time that the royals have gotten involved on social media either. Increasingly in recent years, the palace has realised the importance and significance of being able to communicate directly with the public via Twitter and Facebook.

The Queen Tweeted from another official account this past weekend – The British Monarchy account. Increasingly though, the other royals have been getting involved and posting updates of their own.

Her majesty Queen Elizabeth has marked a historic moment for social media by sending her first ever Tweet at the the Science Museum in London to open an exhibition about the Information Age.
Her majesty tweeted from the official British Monarchy account who then sent a follow up Tweet confirming that the last one really was typed and posted by the Queen herself.
The Science Museum also joined in on the excitement, posting this photo to their Twitter page. Her Majesty’s tweet has now been retweeted and favourited over 40,000 times.
Prince Harry also sent his first Tweet in May this year via the Twitter account of the Invictus Games, for whom he was a spokesperson.
