This year, The Queen and Prince Philip will celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary.

Royal tradition was in full effect at the state opening of the British Parliament. The Queen and Prince Philip shared a particularly tender moment as the Duke held his wife’s hand as he guided her down the stairs.

As Queen Elizabeth stepped into her role as Head of State at the House of Lords, Prince Philip still focused on being a doting husband, caring for his wife and holding her hand to ensure she walked down the steps with ease.

Every year the monarch speaks in front of the House of Lords and House of Commons discussing the government’s upcoming agenda of legislation and policies for the year ahead.

The 89-year-old was like a fish to water as she addressed the open parliament with ease, as her husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles and Camilla sat in attendance.

Cutting no cost, the Queen rode from Buckingham palace to Westminster in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach. Oozing regal charm, she wore the Robe of State and the Imperial State Crown.

The crown was created for Elizabeth’s mother, Queen Victoria, in 1838 and featured gemstones including the diamond known as the Second Star of Africa, the Black Prince’s Ruby, the Stuart Sapphire, St Edward’s Sapphire and Queen Elizabeth’s Pearls.

The Queen delivered her speech in front of the government.

“My government will legislate in the interests of everyone in the country.

“It will adopt a one nation approach, helping working people get on, supporting aspiration, giving new opportunities to the disadvantaged and bringing different parts of our country together.”

The Prime Minster echoed the Queen’s sentiment stating he wanted to “bring our country together”.
