The greatest Easter outfits worn by royals through the years, from Princess Diana to Queen Elizabeth

Whether they’re spending Christmas at Sandringham, marking Trooping the Colour at Buckingham Palace or watching racing fanfare at Royal Ascot, the royals know how to be consistent when it comes to their annual traditions.

And the Easter Mattins Service at Windsor Castle is up there with the best of them when the religious occasion rolls around each year.

As with any royal event, it offers up a glorious spectacle of fashion, with members of the monarchy donning their Sunday best for the formal service – quite literally.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge broke tradition in 2014 when they celebrated Easter in Australia.

With the service held on Easter Sunday each year, the family no doubt look forward to gathering together and catching up with their nearest and dearest.

Ever the timeless fashion icon, Princess Diana set the precedent for Easter fashion in 1986 when she was pictured in this Victorian-esque navy ensemble with a matching pill box hat.

The following year, she one-upped her past fashion-performances by matching her powder blue coat with her young son Prince William. And how sweet is Wills’ cousin Peter Philips?!
