Catherine, Princess of Wales arrived for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on September 19 wearing an outfit designed to pay homage to the late monarch.

She wore an all-black ensemble fitting for the solemn occasion, accessorising with delicate pearl jewellery which were a favourite of the Queen’s and symbolised tears in the Victorian Era.

Catherine’s dress was her siganture A-line cut, with a blazer style bodice and long sleeves. She also wore a shallow hat with a delicate net veil.

In a poignant touch, the princess donned the same necklace she wore for Prince Philip’s funeral last year.

Catherine was accompanied by her eldest children Prince George and Princess Charlotte, as well as the Queen Consort and Duchess of Sussex.

This isn’t the first time Catherine has honoured the Queen’s life and legacy through her fashion, as the princess has donned pearls in memory of the monarch several times since her death.

She was spotted wearing multiple strings of pearls, reminiscent of Her Majesty’s signature three-strand pearl necklace, as she arrived at Buckingham Palace to receive the coffin of the Queen last week.

The delicate Baroque Pearl Earring Drops are a favourite of the royal, designed by British jeweller Annoushka Ducas, and honour the tradition of royal women wearing pearls while in mourning.

The Queen herself was a staunch believer in the tradition and was often photographed wearing pearl jewellery and brooches at significant funerals, including Prince Philip’s in 2021.

Her Majesty wore the Richmond brooch on that solemn day, which she inherited from her grandmother Queen Mary and features single pearl in its center.

There has been speculation that much of the late Queen’s extensive jewellery collection will now pass to Queen Consort Camilla, who is expected to continue loaning pieces to other royal women as Queen Elizabeth II often did.

She offered Catherine significant pieces on countless occasions through the years, including the Cartier Halo tiara she wore on the day she wed William in 2011.
