Queen Elizabeth declined to sit on the Iron Throne while visiting the set of Game of Thrones but her Majesty did seem curious about the chair which has caused so much fictional carnage.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip toured the popular HBO show’s Belfast studio as part of their visit to Northern Ireland where they were hosted by showrunners D. B. Weiss and David Benioff.
While the real-life royals viewed the prop weaponry and clothing and met with cast members, the biggest moment of the tour came when the Queen saw the sword-sculpted throne.
After giving the elaborate prop a good stare and seemingly contemplating whether or not to perch in the chair, the 88-year-old chose not to sit – a move which is likely to disappoint avid fans of the show who have been hotly anticipating a shot of the Queen of England on the throne of Westeros.
The Queen and the Duke have kept a busy schedule while in Belfast. Earlier in the day the royal couple visited the city’s notorious Crumlin Road jail where they were hosted by two former inmates and they also enjoyed a garden party held at Hillsborough Castle.
“Mine’s much nicer” is one thought that could be occupying the mind of Queen Elizabeth II as she stares down the Iron Throne.
