There could not have been a more joyous weekend to mark Queen Elizabeth’s 70 years on the throne.
Starting with Thursday’s Trooping The Colour, and ending with a surprise Buckingham Palace balcony appearance following the Pageant, the highly-awaited Platinum Jubilee celebrations were a sight to behold.
While the milestone itself was significant, the occasion was made all the more meaningful by some minor details you may have missed.
Queen Elizabeth II made a surprise appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony to close the Platinum Jubilee weekend.
(Credit: (Image: Getty))For her surprise balcony appearance, Queen Elizabeth II was greeted with enthusiastic cheers from royal fans as she stunned in a bright green Stewart Parvin double crepe wool dress and coat, complete with gold buttons and a matching hat by Rachel Trevor-Morgan.
The monarch paired the eye-catching outfit with a layered pearl necklace, white gloves, and a very special brooch.
In a special touch, the silver bow accessory is one of three brooches made for her great-grandmother Queen Victoria in 1958 by Garrard.
During the final year of her reign, Queen Victoria designated the brooches “heirlooms of The Crown” and they have since been passed down to every Queen.

Queen Elizabeth has been spotted sporting the historical brooches during many royal events throughout the years, including to her former daughter-in-law Princess Diana’s funeral in 1997.
Following the memorable jubilee weekend, Buckingham Palace released an official statement from Her Majesty which thanked members of the Commonwealth for their unwavering support over the past seven decades.
“I have been humbled and deeply touched,” read a statement from the Queen.
(Credit: (Image: Getty))“When it comes to how to mark seventy years as your Queen, there is no guidebook to follow,” the statement read. “It really is a first. But I have been humbled and deeply touched that so many people have taken to the streets to celebrate my Platinum Jubilee.
“While I may not have attended every event in person, my heart has been with you all; and I remain committed to serving you to the best of my ability, supported by my family.”
The Queen went on to say that she has been “inspired” by the kindness, joy and kinship that has accompanied the celebrations and she hopes this sense of community continues going forward.
“I thank you most sincerely for your good wishes and for the part you have all played in these happy celebrations.”
