Queen Elizabeth marks 88th birthday with smiling portrait

A new portrait of the Queen has been released to celebrate her 88th birthday on April 21.
Portrait of The Queen by David Bailey for her 88th birthday

The contemporary black-and-white image – shot by renowned British photographer David Bailey CBE – of a smiling Queen was taken at Buckingham Palace in March.

Commissioned by the British Government’s GREAT Britain campaign, the image will be used to promote Britain as a destination for trade, tourism, investment and education.

David Bailey is regarded as one of the UK’s best photographers and is credited with capturing and helping to create the ‘Swinging London’ of the 1960s.

Despite going into her 88th year, the Queen is very fit, in excellent health and maintains her enduring stamina for public appearances.

The late Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, lived to be 101 years old and it seems that the Queen is headed for a similar longevity.
