Over the weekend, the United Kingdom celebrated Father's Day, and to commemorate the occasion the Palace shared a throwback of the Queen with her late father, King George VI.
In the colour photograph, the then Princess Elizabeth shares a laugh with her dad in the palace gardens.
The sweet moment caught on camera speaks to their palpable bond while also unwittingly capturing the legacy they were about to share.
Alongside the iconic snap, the Palace wrote, "Wishing all of our followers a very happy Father's Day.
"📸 The Queen (then Princess Elizabeth) with her father King George VI in 1946."
The post's comment section quickly filled up with sweet messages from Elizabeth's proud subjects and fans.
One wrote, "His Late Majesty King George VI would be beaming with pride at his daughter's achievements," another shared, "❤️❤️ The King and The Queen😍."
"What a delightful snap of HRH's G & E 👑👑," commented another.
The Queen and her late father shared a close relationship and he was said to have called Elizabeth his "pride" whilst younger daughter Princess Margaret was his "joy".
King George VI was also the one who coined her unique nickname Lilibet as when she was a child the Queen couldn't pronounce Elizabeth.
The young royal referred to herself as "Tillabet" then "Lisabet" or "Lilliebeth" before her father began calling her "Lilibet," which her family members still refer to her as.
Her Majesty wasn't the only royal to celebrate Father's Day on social media.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also rang in the holiday by sharing a never-before-seen snap taken in Jordan last year. It was the same location that their 2021 Christmas card photo was taken as well.
In the photo, Prince Louis is placed on Prince William's shoulders with his hands around his face, while Prince George and Princess Charlotte laugh beside them.
"Wishing a Happy Father's Day to fathers and grandfathers across the world today!" shared the Cambridges in their caption accompanying the adorable picture.
"This is such a lovely photo! Happy Father's Day 🤍," reacted a fan. "The pure joy on these faces! 😍 Happy Father's Day!" penned another.
Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall's Instagram, shared a slew of pictures to commemorate the day.
The first photo featured Charles sharing a laugh with his late father, Prince Philip. The following image was of Camilla with her dad Bruce Shand. Lastly, the carousel concluded with a throwback of Charles laying on the grass with a young Prince William and Prince Harry.
"Wishing everyone a very happy Father's Day!" read the caption.
