She was the most photographed woman in the world but just when we thought we’d seen every photo of Princess Diana in existence, her younger brother, Charles Spencer, has shared a never-before-seen new photo from her childhood.

Taking to Instagram on his 57th birthday, the Earl of Spencer posted a beautiful black-and-white photo of the pair, clad in their bathers sitting outside in a garden – a joyful yet simple sibling moment.

In the poignant image, Diana’s captivating features – including her trademark pout and fair hair – take centre stage as she relaxes next to her brother.

“Some bonds go back a very long way,” the 57-year-old captioned the post.

Fans were quick to react to the stunning shot, flooding the comments section with their memories of Princess Diana.

“That is the most beautiful photograph and the bond is obvious. Thank you for sharing… made me smile. God bless Diana’s soul ✨,” one person wrote.

“‘I’m sure Diana is watching over you from heaven ❤️,” a second said.

One fan mused: “Happiest of Birthdays Enjoy. And, we ALL miss your Sister, our Princess ❤️.”

“She was always gorgeous ❤️,’ another noted.

Princess Diana and her brother shared a robust relationship with the pair tragically not on speaking terms at the time of her death in 1997.

Despite their rift, Charles has spoken fondly of the tight bond the pair shared during their turbulent childhood.

“Diana and I had two older sisters who were away at school, so she and I were very much in it together,” he reflected to the Sunday Times last year of growing up in the wake of their parents’ acrimonious divorce.

“I’m always surprised by how difficult August 31 is each year actually. I always slightly brace myself for it and it does take me out at the knees. It is a very poignant time,” he added of the death of her anniversary.

In 2017, Charles spoke about the gut-wrenching reality of delivering the eulogy at his beloved sister’s funeral.

The speech, which has gone down in history as one of the world’s most memorable (and most poignant), described the ‘People’s Princess’ as “the very essence of compassion, of duty, of style, of beauty” and “a symbol of selfless humanity.”

It also famously described Diana as “the most hunted person of the modern age.”

Speaking to the iconic line, he told People: “It summed up so much of the anger I felt towards those who had done that to her.”
