Picking your child’s godparents is no mean feat and with Princess Charlotte’s christening just days away, an announcement as to who her official godparents will be is imminent.

As the countdown begins, a list of front-runners has emerged – showing a very diverse and eclectic bunch!

From family to close friends and even sports stars, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge definitely won’t be short of some amazing role models in her life. And, knowing how down-to-earth her parents William and Kate are, they’ll be sure to pick solid choices.

Thus far, royal experts are placing bets on aunt and uncle Pippa Middleton and Prince Harry, Prince William’s cousin and close friend Peter Phillips and cousins Princess Beatrice and Eugenie.

While non-royals are also getting a look in, including William’s former nanny-turned-confidante Tiggy Pettifer, good friend Thomas-van-Straubenzee and the Duchess’ school friend Alicia Fox-Pitt to name a few.

It’s also believed Duchess Catherine and Prince William may pay tribute to their daughter’s late grandmother, Princess Diana, by picking one the Princess of Wales’ siblings.

Royal experts believe Prince William and Duchess Catherine will opt for a similar structure to first son Prince George’s godaprents. In 2013, George’s seven godparents were revealed to be Oliver Baker, Emilia Jardine-Paterson, Earl Grosvenor, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, Julia Samuel, William van Cutsem and Zara Phillips.

Prince William’s two cousins Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice are tipped to be potential front-runners.

After working with William on a variety of wildlife conservation campaigns, retired soccer pro David Beckham has formed a close bond with the royal and the bookies believe Becks has a small chance of landing a jersey, so to speak.

Prince William is already godfather to pal’s Rose and Hugh van Cutsem’s daughter Grace while Hugh’s brother William van Cutsem is one of George’s godfathers. Considering the strong link between both families, it’s believed Hugh and his wife Rose could very well be chosen.

Zara Phillips’ older brother Peter Phillips, 37, is extremely close to his cousin William. Meanwhile Zara was the only family member chosen to be Prince George’s godmother so perhaps the favour will be returned the second time around.

Alicia Fox-Pitt is one of the Duchess’ closes friends from her days at Marlborough College and the pair remain very close.

Royal insiders are also predicting William and Kate may stray from tradition and honour the late Princess Diana, pictured here with sister Lady Sarah McCorquodale, by picking one of her siblings.

Prince William has stayed close to his uncle, Charles Spencer, and aunt, Jane Fellowes.

Wills’ old school chum Thomas van Straubenzee has been a constant fixture of support throughout his life. The Duke of Cambridge may repay him by granting him the ultimate title as godfather to his daughter.

Prince Harry might be missing the baptism due to charity work but that doesn’t mean the charming uncle won’t be a contender for the role of godfather.

She was the Maid of Honour at Catherine’s 2011 wedding to William, so will Pippa Middleton be one of Princess Charlotte’s leading ladies?

Tiggy Pettifer looked after Prince William and Harry in their formative years and has thus become a close friend of the family.

Tiggy looked after the boys during Prince Charles and Diana’s separation.
