Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are already getting into the swing of their new life outside of their former roles as senior royals, it seems.

March 31 marked the official day the pair would commence their transition into a financially independent life, and they didn’t waste any time in making the feat clear.

Posting a formal farewell to their Instagram page, Sussex Royal, Harry and Meghan thanked their 11 million-strong following, as well as hinting at big things to come.

“While you may not see us here, the work continues,” they wrote, before finishing with: “We look forward to reconnecting with you soon. You’ve been great! Until then, please take good care of yourselves, and of one another.”

We’re certainly reassured this won’t be the last we see of them, but it was blatantly clear from the Instagram message that the work in their capacity as senior royals had ended.

And to reiterate their point, a new out-of-office message from their official office has also placed a nail in their short-lived senior royal coffin.

As revealed by PEOPLE, a jarring automated message response to any comms sent to their old office confirms the finite end: “Many thanks for your email. The office for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has now closed.”

Reception for the pair has been mixed in the months following their decision to step down as senior royal family members.

There’s no doubt their fans will greatly miss the couple’s frequent royal appearances. They single-handedly helped modernise the monarchy with their refreshing and open approach to formal engagements (you can’t miss those sneaky PDAs).

Additionally, their work and passion in promoting social causes in line with their patronages was admirable.

Of course, it’s expected the pair will continue to spearhead and promote charities and initiatives that serve a greater good in our society.

Having just relocated to Los Angeles, Meghan’s home town, it looks as though the pair are keeping busy planning out their next steps.

And despite the confronting reality that their position as senior royal family members is no more, perhaps we’re in for a bigger and better display from the pair.

Without many of the confines of royal rules and protocols, we can only imagine how far these forces to be reckoned with will go.
