Royal fans have been patiently waiting for Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s first in-person appearance since welcoming daughter Lilibet in June.

Now, the parents-of-two have touched down in New York City for a very special engagement with New York City mayor Bill de Blasio and Governor of New York State Kathy Hochul at the Big Apple’s One World Trade Centre.

Harry and Meghan’s visit comes two weeks after the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks and the One World Trade Centre was built on the site of the original twin towers.

Dressed in an all-black ensemble featuring a turtle neck knitted jumper, flared trousers and heeled boots, the Duchess of Sussex also donned a black coat and had her hair pulled back in a chic bun.

Harry, meanwhile, kept things traditional in a dark suit and tie.

When asked by photographers if she was happy to be in New York, Meghan replied: “It’s wonderful to be back thank you.”

According to onlookers, Harry and Meghan walked hand-in-hand as they toured the memorial pools and reflected on the atrocities.

The couple were then spotted in Midtown Manhattan after an outfit change – whilst Harry donned a different suit, Meghan wore a tanned coat, a black skirt and heels along with some ultra-stylish sunglasses.

Harry and Meghan went on to meet with the US ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield.

“Wonderful meeting with Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Important discussion of COVID, racial justice, and raising mental health awareness,” she tweeted.

Harry and Meghan will also attend Global Citizen Live in the city’s iconic setting of Central Park.

The 24-hour broadcast is part of a number of shows being held around the world to shine light and combat COVID-19, the world hunger crisis and protecting the planet.

The New York show will feature performances from musical acts including Coldplay, Billie Eilish and Jennifer Lopez.

New York City holds a special place in Meghan’s heart and she wrote about the beloved location in her now defunct lifestyle blog, The Tig in 2015.

“It wasn’t until filming the pilot for Suits that I began to know NY. And it wasn’t until a good year after that, that I began to know NY well, she wrote at the time.

“I found my nook. My downtown: a little grubby, a little rough around the edges, a lot stylish, and as cool as I aspired to be – we’re talking the Lower East Side. I love a neighbourhood that you can get lost in, always finding new nooks and crannies, interest and intrigue. And while the West Village is high on my list, and nothing is more convenient for work than staying uptown, this neck of the woods deserves a post all its own.”

New York was also the location where Meghan celebrated her baby shower whilst she was pregnant with Archie.
