The palace’s worst kept secret has finally been made official with the exciting confirmation Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are coming to Australia for the Invictus Games in October.

Kensington Palace confirmed the news in a statement on Monday, revealing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be carrying out the visit to tie in with the Invictus Games and an official royal tour of Australia, Fiji, the Kingdom of Tonga and New Zealand.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will undertake an official visit to Australia, Fiji, the Kingdom of Tonga, and New Zealand in the Autumn,” statement read.

It continued: “Their Royal Highnesses have been invited to visit the Realms of Australia and New Zealand by the countries’ respective governments. The Duke and Duchess will visit the Commonwealth countries of Fiji and Tonga at the request of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.”

“The tour will fall on the occasion of the Invictus Games Sydney 2018. Further details will be advised in due course.”

This will mark Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first official royal tour as husband and wife and is set to garner global interest.

In April during an appearance at Bath in England for the UK team trials, Meghan let slip a trip to Sydney for Harry’s beloved Invictus Games was already locked in.

During a conversation with athlete player Michael Mellon, who competed in sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball at the Games last year, Meghan shared their plans.

“She told me she had never been to Australia but was going to this year’s event and really looking forward to being there with Harry,” Michael revealed to royal reporter Omid Scobie.

We can’t wait to welcome the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to Australia.

Former military man Prince Harry launched the Paralympics-style event for wounded servicemen and women back in 2014 and it has since become a global attraction.

Australia holds a special place in Prince Harry’s heart after he spent his 2003 gap year in the outback and in 2015, his charm offensive wooed the nation yet again as he embarked on a month-long secondment with the Australian Defence Force.

Just last year, Harry jetted to Sydney for a whirlwind trip to launch the Invictus Games Down Under and we have no doubt the royal can’t wait to bring his wife back and show her the magic of our country.

The 2018 Invictus Games commence on the 18th of October and go until the 29th.
