Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, have made a telling donation in the wake of the Taliban’s takeover of Kabul earlier this month.
After releasing a statement saying that the takeover and its implications left them “speechless”, the royal couple are now working to support Afghan women.
This week, they donated an undisclosed sum to the charity Women for Afghan Women through their Archewell Foundation.
“We are immensely grateful for the generosity of the Archewell Foundation in support of our efforts to evacuate/relocate thousands of Afghan women, children, families, including our staff,” the charity shared on social media.

There are concerns that the Taliban will seek to limit women’s rights to education, religious freedom, and much more if it remains in power.
Activist, advocate and Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai recently penned an op-ed for The New York Times where she said she fears for her Afghan sisters.
“We cannot continue to fail them. We have no time to spare,” wrote the 24-year-old, who was the victim of a Taliban attack when she was a teen.
Now Harry and Meghan are also urging people around the world to take action to support those suffering or endangered by the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan.
“When any person or community suffers, a piece of each of us does so with them, whether we realise it or not,” their recent statement read.
“We encourage you to join us in supporting a number of organisations doing critical work.”
The royal couple also encouraged “those in positions of global influence” to focus on humanitarian dialogues and efforts around the world.
“As an international community, it is the decisions we make now — to alleviate suffering among those we know and those we may never meet — that will prove our humanity,” the statement finished.
This is far from the first time the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have spoken out in support of humanitarian causes, especially regarding women.
Meghan has been a proponent of women’s and girls’ rights since long before she joined the royal family.
In the past, she worked as a global ambassador for World Vision and as an advocate for UN Women to support women’s causes across nations like Rwanda and India.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry has a personal connection to Afghanistan, having served two tours of duty there during his time in the British armed forces.
