It was a family affair at yesterday’s Rugby World Cup reception for the British Royals!
To mark 2015’s Rugby World Cup, Queen Elizabeth, dressed in a delightful plum gown, hosted a gaggle of rugby players in the reception hall at Buckingham Palace.
Among the guests was her grandson, Prince Harry, her husband, Prince Philip, and her daughter, Princess Anne.
As patron of Rugby Football Union and the Welsh Rugby Union, the Queen was on hand to celebrate more than 400 players, coaches and staff on their involvement in the games – and to enjoy a bit of cake too, of course.
Her redheaded grandson Harry, still sporting that dashing red beard, also played a role in the evening as the honorary President of England’s 2015 team.
Speaking to the players, the cheeky royal thanked the crowd in his short opening speech.
“It has been one of the most competitive and entertaining World Cups ever,” Harry remarked, “This evening, we would like to thank all of you for making England 2015 such a successful and enjoyable tournament for everybody. You are helping inspire children of all backgrounds to get involved with the game we all love.”
