She is about to release a tell-all biography with husband Prince Harry about the couple’s controversial exit from the royal family, but now it’s been revealed that Meghan Markle was keeping a secret diary during her time as a senior member of The Firm.

That has led to speculation that the Sussex family’s upcoming book could include some intimate first-hand details of exactly what went on behind the scenes during the couple’s bitter falling out with the Windsors.

Daily Mail columnist Sebastian Shakespeare says a friend of Meghan’s told him the former Suits actress kept a diary throughout her time as a royal.

“I can disclose that, according to one of the Duchess’s friends, Meghan — guest-editor of British Vogue in 2018 — kept a diary during her time in the UK,” he wrote.

“Such a journal could form the basis of a definitive, first-person chronicle of her extraordinary journey from aspiring American actress to member of Britain’s Royal Family.”

The diary reportedly contains first person accounts of Meghan’s life as a royal.

Renowned royal biographer Andrew Morton, the author of Princess Diana’s controversial book Diana: Her True Story, endorsed Meghan’s previous writing experience.

“She is a good writer, with a nice turn of phrase,” he told the Daily Mail.

“‘Remember she studied English in her first year at Northwestern College.”

Morton also suggested that a first person account from Meghan of her time with the royal family would be a huge win for the Duchess’s upcoming book release.

“She would have total control,” he said.

As well as her British Vogue guest editor gig, Meghan’s previous writing background includes her lifestyle blog The Tig and another not defunct blog, The Working Actress, which she wrote anonymously.

“My hair is primped, my face is painted, my name is recognised, my star meter is rising, my life is changing,” she once wrote.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that a new authorised biography on Harry and Meghan will be released later this year, in August.

Penned by two renowned “friendly” royal correspondents, Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, who were given “unique access” to the couple during an interview before they relocated to America, the book is set to shed light on exactly what went on behind the scenes during the Sussex’s split from the royal family.

Titled, Finding Freedom: Harry, Meghan, and the Making of a Modern Royal Family, and according to its blurb on Amazon.com, the book will go “beyond the headlines to reveal unknown details of Harry and Meghan’s life together, dispelling the many rumours and misconceptions that plague the couple on both sides of the pond.”

The synopsis also adds: “While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have continued to make headlines — from their engagement, wedding, and birth of their son Archie to their unprecedented decision to step back from their royal lives — few know the true story of Harry and Meghan.

“With unique access and written with the participation of those closest to the couple, Finding Freedom is an honest, up-close, and disarming portrait of a confident, influential, and forward-thinking couple who are unafraid to break with tradition, determined to create a new path away from the spotlight, and dedicated to building a humanitarian legacy that will make a profound difference in the world.”

While it’s unclear exactly how much insight the Duke and Duchess will offer fans about their experience, a friend of Meghan’s told Vanity Fair that she wouldn’t be publishing a “kiss and tell”.

“The Meghan stories seem to get more far-fetched by the day,” the royal insider said.

“I wasn’t aware that Meghan kept a diary, but even if she was chronicling that period, she is not going to be publishing a kiss-and-tell. That isn’t on the agenda for her or Harry.”
