Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s marriage is one of, if not the most, famous romances in the world.
Since they were first linked together back in 2016, barely a day has gone by that the high-profile couple don’t make front page news.
But before being swept off her feet by the redheaded royal and finding unprecedented international fame from the media frenzy that followed, the Suits actress was married to successful Hollywood producer, Trevor Engelson.
You’d be forgiven for not knowing that Meghan enjoyed a whirlwind romance pre Harry, but Trevor built himself a lucrative film career of his own.
After dating for six years, Meghan and Trevor – who is best known for his work on the 2010 drama Remember Me – became engaged in 2010. In September the following year, the couple tied the knot in an extravagant beach-side wedding in Jamaica.
But by the tail end of 2013, Meghan and Trevor quietly split and the pair went their separate ways.
And Meghan’s infamously-outspoken estranged brother, Thomas Markle Jr, has had a lot to say about her first marriage on his stint on Big Brother VIP.
“The thing that gets to me is the guy she was married to the first time, Trevor, you’ve seen those movies Saw. That guy owns that production company. This guy just took care of her, she was adored by him. She just walked all over him and dumped him,” he told his fellow celebrity housemates.
“After being married, [she] sent the ring back in the mail. Is that cold or what?”
Thomas admitted him and Meghan were close but “stopped talking” around the time she landed the role of Rachel Zane on Suits.
“Money changed her I guess. Money and fame just went to her head really bad. Meghan treats her family like she’s embarrassed of where she comes from. She’s very selfish and self-centred. I think she’s very shallow. You’re never too good for anybody, ever. It’s rude to treat people like that,” he said.

Meghan and Trevor, who owns his own production company called Underground, originally met in the early 2000s and started dating around 2004.
After dating for six years, the couple became engaged in 2010.

In September 2011, the couple tied the knot in an extravagant beach-side wedding at the Jamaica Inn in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. There were over 100 guests in attendance and the celebrations kicked on for days.
Meghan and Trevor’s marriage lasted just two years and by September, 2013 they had quietly separated.
Sources close to the couple claim Meghan’s role on Suits, which is filmed in Toronto, played a part in their demise.
“It put a strain on the relationship. Trevor was in LA making movies, Meghan was in another country five hours’ flight away and it simply took its toll,” a friend told the Daily Mail.

In 2017, sources told Woman’s Day the producer had been offered more than $1 million to write a tell-all book about his short-lived marriage to Meghan.
Insiders alleged Trevor was asked to spill details about his and Meghan’s sex life, her parents’ marriage breakdown, allegations of diva antics and temper tantrums on the part of the actress, and even shock claims Meghan had “an emotional affair” during their marriage.
When Meghan filed for divorce in August 2013, she citied “irreconcilable differences”.
According to royal biographer Andrew Morton, Meghan sent her diamond engagement and wedding ring back to her estranged husband in the mail.
In his book, Meghan: A Hollywood Princess, Andrew wrote that: “Trevor definitely had the rug pulled out from under him. He was hurt.”

These days, Trevor is based in LA with his wife and daughter and seems to be relishing his blissful family life.
The film producer wed nutritionist Tracey Kurland in 2019 and they welcomed daughter Ford Grace Engelson in August 2020.

When Meghan and Prince Harry went public with their relationship in 2017, many media outlets turned to Trevor for intimate details about his ex.
However, the Hollywood film producer has remained tight-lipped about his royal ex, choosing to keep their private past private.
