When Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan welcomed their second child, royal fans were delighted by the happy news.
Born on June 4th 2021 at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, California, the couple’s daughter Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten Windsor weighed 7 lbs 11 oz.
“On June 4, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili. She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe,” the Duke and Duchess of Sussex wrote in an official statement.
“Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”
Unlike her cousins Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, Lilibet lives a much more private life as she was born after her parents stepped down from their senior royal duties.
Since her brother Archie Harrison was born in 2019 when Harry and Meghan were still based in the UK, we were treated to some cute photos during his early years – who could forget his visit to South Africa?

Lilibet’s name is a tribute to two of the most important women in her life.
Her first name derives from her paternal great-grandmother’s family nickname. The name came about when the Queen was a small child and couldn’t pronounce Elizabeth. The young royal referred to herself as “Tillabet” then “Lisabet” or “Lilliebeth” before her father King George VI began calling her “Lilibet,” which her family members still refer to her as. Prince Philip used to affectionately call his wife by the pet name as well.
Meanwhile, Lilibet shares her middle name, Diana, with her cousin Princess Charlotte. It is, of course, a nod to Princes William and Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana.
During his 2022 Invictus Games in the Netherlands, Harry revealed that he speaks about “Grandma Diana” constantly with his children, however conceded that he doesn’t tell them “all the stuff that happened”.
Lilibet’s name is a special nod to the Queen, though she will be referred to as “Lili”.

Since she was born in California in the USA, Lilibet is the first of the Queen’s great-grandchildren to be born outside the UK.
However, she isn’t the first British royal – Maud Windsor, the daughter of Harry’s distant cousin Lord Frederick Windsor and 51st in line to the throne, was born in Los Angeles back in 2013.

What does she look like?
The proud parents shared the first official photograph of Lilibet in December 2021 when they released their family Christmas card.
Taken by photographer Alexi Lubomirski, who also shot Harry and Meghan’s engagement photos back in 2017, the photo showed the foursome at their Santa Barbara, California home.
But we had our first up-close look at Harry and Meghan’s daughter when she turned one when new photos taken at her first birthday party were released.
Whilst she’s certainly inherited her dad’s red hair, that smile is just like her mum’s!

As eighth in line to the throne after her father and big brother Archie, Lilibet could potentially become Queen although it is highly unlikely.
Since she holds both British and US citizenship, Lilibet has the best of both worlds, however if either she (or Archie for that matter) have their own children outside of the UK, she will have to apply for British citizenship.
Hypothetically, Lilibet could also also run for President of the United States as she was born on American soil.

Whilst official royal statements confirmed that the royal adults were “delighted” by the news of Lilibet’s safe arrival, she has one big fan in Archie!
A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan told PEOPLE in June 2021 that the eldest Sussex child “is very happy to have a little sister”.
“They prepared Archie by talking a lot about the baby. He is too little to understand though.”
Her first Halloween costume was adorable
Whilst speaking to Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show in November 2021, Meghan revealed that the family stayed at home for Halloween, but there was still an opportunity to dress up.
“We wanted to do something fun for the kids, and then the kids were just not into it at all,” the mother-of-two revealed.
“Archie was a dinosaur for maybe five minutes. She [Lilibet] was a little skunk, like Flower from Bambi.”
