Kate’s touching words for Queen Elizabeth

“What really resonates with me is her love for simple things, the lack of fuss - and it’s a special quality to have."

In a documentary to mark Queen Elizabeth’s 90th Birthday, the Duchess of Cambridge has paid tribute to the monarch.

“I think she’s so, so engaging. I think she has got the most fantastic smile and I think if the Queen does nothing but smiles, it gives people a huge amount of joy and a huge amount of pleasure,” Kate said.

“She’s so dignified and calm…everyone feels that they’ve had some quality time with Her Majesty – and also a real personal connection, and I think that’s a real skill.”

She went on to praise the Queen’s energy and devotion, even as a young mother.

“I have no idea where she gets her energy from – I need to go and ask a few more questions.”

“Being a mother and new in my job as well, I have no idea how the Queen has done it – with four children of her own.

“To manage all of those elements of your life – from the family, to the work as well as to the national importance of her role – it’s extraordinary. And for so long too – I think it’s really incredible.”

Kate’s comments came in her first solo TV interview which featured on the documentary, Our Queen at Ninety.

She also remarked on the monarch’s modest tastes, saying, “What’s really struck me is her love for the simple things in life. You would expect a lot of grandeur and a lot of fuss. Actually what really resonates with me is her love for simple things, the lack of fuss – and it’s a special quality to have.”

Queen Elizabeth will celebrate her 90th birthday on April 21.
