Feeling invisible after 50? How to make the most of your new super-power

Trust us when we say that invisibility is a super-hero power some women feel they develop over a certain age (us, included).

If you’ve ever walked into a shop, tried to order in a restaurant or have your opinion heard in meeting, and had to flap your arms about, cough a little or put your hand up like a school girl to get attention, you know exactly what I have felt.

It can feel like a rude shock when this first happens. And sometimes it’s so gradual that you may not even notice when it does, but on those days when you feel like your invisibility cloak is firmly in place, here’s how to make the best of it.

Being invisible has its advantages

  • You can overhear a lot

  • You can wear pretty much anything you like

  • You can behave a little (or a lot) erratically

  • You can poke funny faces to keep you entertained

  • You can perfect the art of “surprise”

  • You might be able to defeat the bad guys in the end

(Not that we condone all of those things – just pointing out the bright side.)

Jokes aside, it’s important to remember that no matter how invisible you may feel on a particular day, your beauty can be seen from a mile off.

One Instagram account, The Visible Woman, has set out to prove this by showcasing the fabulous women over 50 who reside in Adelaide.

I’m loving this account and all it stands for! Keep up the wonderful work, ladies.
