Giving up has never been an option for aspiring rock star Trent Bell.

The 28-year-old has been trying to break into the music industry for years, only to be knocked back time and again.

“It’s been tough,” Trent tells TV WEEK. “Singing is my passion and I just have that fight in me. I want to make it.”

Before stepping onto The Voice stage, Trent was a contestant on The X Factor Australia in 2012. During the show, he was grouped with four other singers to form boy band The Collective. The group have since gone their separate ways.

Trent admits the constant disappointments eventually took a toll on him.

“You work tirelessly, hoping it will pay off, then it doesn’t,” Trent explains. “Looking back, I should have talked to more people about what I was going through and how I was feeling.”

These days, Trent spends most of his time gigging at different venues. But the money he makes isn’t always enough to pay the bills.

“I do labouring on the side for extra cash to pay for rent and food,” he says.

Thankfully for Trent, his girlfriend Chantel has been by his side all the way.

“She’s a gem,” Trent enthuses. “She has kept me grounded and has backed me throughout the whole journey.”

The pair, who’ve been together for five years, are even thinking about marriage.

“It’s definitely on the cards,” Trent teases with a smile.

As The Voice live shows continue, Trent knows he has some major competition to see off.

“Ben [Clark] is my biggest threat,” Trent reveals. “He has the biggest voice. I wish I had a voice like that.”

And while the hunky singer hopes to be the last man standing, he already has a back-up plan.

“People often come up to me and say, ‘Oh, I know you – are you on Home And Away?'” Trent laughs. “I mean, if the opportunity [to be on the show] ever came up, I’d definitely consider it.”
