The Voice Australia coach Delta Goodrem should have been pretty familiar with Erin Cornell’s voice when she heard it at the Blind Auditions, as the pair are “very good friends”.

“We went to Bon Jovi together a few months ago,” 32-year-old Erin tells TV WEEK. “We have cups of tea. I’ve been to her family home.”

The two met when Delta took on the role of Grizabella in Cats in 2015, a role that NSW-based Erin had been playing in Asia for two years. Erin stayed on as Delta’s understudy and helped her settle in, and before each performance, she’d drop into Delta’s dressing room.

Erin is on The Voice Australia.

“We used to play with angel cards – little gorgeous affirmations – and be gypsy sisters together.

“She has all the time in the world if you’re in need. She’s very protective, like, ‘Don’t mess with my girl!’ She’s just a great human,” Erin says of the coach, describing her as “totally goofy, funny and kind”.

Not only have Erin and Delta both starred in Cats, they’ve each had a role in Neighbours. Although Delta had a major role as Nina Tucker, Erin was in just one episode in 2008, playing a “terrible” singer trying out for Ty’s (Dean Geyer) band.

“I had such a hoot,” she recalls with a laugh.

Erin and Delta go way back.

It’s no surprise Erin has landed on Team Delta, given their close personal history.

The contestant even sang one of her friends’ songs – Welcome To Earth – for her audition, which saw Delta and Kelly turn their chairs.

The Voice Australia airs Monday and Tuesday, 7.30pm, and Sunday, 7pm, on Nine Network.
