The Block fans are in for a thrilling night come Sunday as the homes we have all been watching this season finally go under the hammer.

Show co-host Shelley Craft has said that she expects there will be ”frenzied bidding” at the auctions amidst what has been described as an extremely ”volatile property market”.

Safe to say, nerves are high!

In this season of The Block, contestants have renovated the biggest properties ever seen on any season, and with a brilliant location, Shelley said the excitement come auction day will be palpable.

”The Block this year just came at the right time to show what can be done and what life [in a regional town] can be like and I know that Gisborne is such a convenient area to Melbourne. I think we are going to see some great bidding on action day,” Shelley told 9Entertainment.

“The houses are obviously in that prestige market and particularly for the Gisborne area, they stand on their own as far as an offering, and I think it’s an amazing offering.

“You’re not talking massive acreage or farms, 10 acres is plenty for a family to manage and handle and even if they’re using it as a weekender, it’s just a great opportunity for five lucky people to have a bit of a lifestyle change..

”So I’m hoping there’s frenzied bidding.”

When the time comes, Shelley will of course also be on hand to provide support to the team as they nervously watch homes they have renovated with blood, sweat and many, many tears go under the hammer.

”I like to inform the contestants about what’s going on too, because they are in a bit of a blur. And I’d like to think that I was pretty sharp and ready for action on auction day,” she said.

After co-hosting multiple Block auctions, Shelley said there is one sign she looks for on the day to know that there is good interest in the properties.

”I know the buyers’ advocates (Frank Valentic, Nicole Jacobs and Greville Pabst) that are there every year, if they show up they’ve got bidders, they don’t turn up just for fun because it’s a work day for them,” Shelley explained.

”So often people think that Frank, Greville and Nicole might just be there for fun. But I always look around the room to see if they’re there and if they’re in the room, I know they’ve got a bidder – they don’t just turn up because they like to be on the telly.”

Despite all the excitement of the day, Shelley’s favourite thing about the auction is that the results have nothing to do with her or host Scott Cam, or the TV show itself.

”The auction day is as real as it gets. This is reality television at its most real because it has nothing to do with TV – the auctioneers are in control,” Shelley explained.

”Scotty and I just hang on for the ride and everything is in the lap of the gods, or in the lap of their great agents and auctioneers that they’ve worked closely with. So I love the fact that there’s nothing we can actually do about it.”

The Block: Tree Change Grand Finale Auction will air Sunday November 6, at 7pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
