While most of The Block contestants are all about taking home extra cash at this week’s challenge, Tom and Sarah-Jane have their eyes on a bigger prize.
The moment they walk into one of the locations for the Nosy Neighbour challenge, they spot The Block legend David Wood, the real estate agent who Sarah-Jane knows has sold more winning houses than anyone else.
“We were like, ‘Hey, that’s David – let’s go have a chat!'” Tom, 34, tells TV WEEK. “He turned out to be really lovely.”

(Image: Nine)Later that night, when all the contestants gather at Oz and Omar’s house for a barbecue, the pair decide to see if they can convince their new best friend to represent them in the upcoming Block auctions, ducking away to make a secret phone call.
“We knew some of the others were interested in him, so we wanted to lock him in,” Sarah-Jane, 30, says.
“Once we had that chat, we thought, ‘Well, we might just keep this one to ourselves.’ So we went back to the barbecue and said nothing.”
It’s the first time the laidback couple have demonstrated they’re prepared to play strategically to win, but it won’t be the last, Tom declares.
“I think everyone is there to win, deep down,” he says. “So everyone wants the best chance at auction.”
“We think David could be that best chance for us,” Sarah-Jane adds, “so we’re taking it!”
It’s not the first time Sarah-Jane has surprised viewers with her outspoken attitude, revealing last week that she “saw it coming” when Joel and Elle left the show.
“I saw that coming. They didn’t make any effort to get to know us, they looked miserable the whole time,” she said.
“I heard that they were like ‘I can’t wear that, that doesn’t represent us’ and this and that.”
“At the room reveal they sort of thought they were out,” added Tom, Sarah-Jane confirming they seemed “sour”.
