Comedian and Taboo host Harley Breen knows exactly what it’s like to stand up in front of a crowd and be heckled mercilessly.

So, when charged with mentoring eight of The Bachelorette men in Wednesday’s episode, the long-time comic certainly felt for them.

And while it was obviously an absolute honour to be a part of the show, when it comes to which contestants were stand-outs, Harley wasn’t quite sure…

In a (very funny) interview with Now to Love, Harley explained what the experience was like and just how much he actually remembers.

“The honest truth is, I have no recollection of their names. I genuinely have no idea,” Harley joked, when in actual fact he just wasn’t allowed to say.

For Harley’s appearance, he had just come back from a gig in Bright, Victoria, “which is geographically four hours north of Melbourne.”

“I had to get up at 4.30am with my pregnant wife and toddler and get in the car, drive to Albury airport and fly to Sydney just to do the gig, so I wasn’t in the greatest head space,” Harley said, but loved the experience nonetheless.

Once there, Harley turned on his A-game, giving the gents some much needed advice for their stand-up comedy routine – a routine which was meant to impress Bachelorette Angie Kent.

“Well, the number one piece of advice I always give to anyone starting out in stand-up comedy is to tell your story, because all the jokes that you could possibly imagine have been written already but someone’s personal story, personal experiences and personal anecdotes have not been told,” Harley said.

“So, if you just focus on your story, at the very least you’ll have a unique take.”

Revealing he is not a devoted fan of the show, Harley did enjoy meeting Angie and has a firm understanding of why she is so popular.

“I did get a chance to hang out with Angie,” the father-of-two said.

“She’s an incredibly real person. I felt like in that short day with her, what you see is what you get.”

Catch Harley Breen when The Bachelorette continues at 7.30pm on Wednesday.
