Bachie season is almost upon us, with The Bachelor Australia sure to kick off in the coming months.

For the first time in four years viewers will meet an “unknown” Bachelor, 31-year-old Astrophysicist Matt Agnew. Once Matt wraps up his search for love, fan-favourite Angie Kent will be looking for her perfect man on The Bachelorette Australia.

Ahead of their highly-anticipated seasons, Matt and Angie have given TV WEEK a peek in to their Bachie journeys…

MATT AGNEW

It’s been some time since we’ve had a brand-new Bachelor. So, tell us, why are you still single?

I wouldn’t be doing this if I knew! I honestly don’t know. I’ve travelled and moved cities a bit, so that might be a factor. I guess I just haven’t met the right person yet.

What qualities are you searching for in a partner?

To a degree, the characteristics [I’m looking for] are things everyone looks for in a partner. Someone supportive, compassionate, warm, caring and generous; someone who’s fun and doesn’t mind being a bit silly. They don’t take themselves too seriously and we can just enjoy having a laugh and some fun together. I’m looking for a best friend – the same way I’ve seen so many of my good friends find one in their partners.

What are your biggest deal-breakers or turn-offs?

Other than obvious things, it would be a lack of compassion, not being supportive and selfishness. Also superficiality, rudeness and manipulative behaviour.

ANGIE KENT

Was becoming The Bachelorette a no-brainer?

Before going on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, I would’ve had to have a massive think about it. But now, it’s the perfect time. I’m excited!

This show invites a lot of media attention. Are you worried?

After Gogglebox Australia I would’ve wigged out with everybody knowing my business. But after the jungle, everyone got to know me a bit better. It will be intimidating, but I think I’ll be OK.

Have you spoken to any former Bachelorettes for advice on the experience?

I’ve heard from Georgia Love [from season two]. She’s such a strong, smart woman and holds herself so well. I haven’t heard from Ali Oetjen [season four]. We’re very different people, but I loved that she was so vulnerable. Everyone gave her such a hard time because she knew exactly what she wanted, and she didn’t beat around the bush. Some people can find that intimidating. But I have a real soft spot for her and think she was misjudged.

Do you have a type?

I’ve dated very nerdy guys, but I’ve also dated chilled, down-to-earth guys. The one thing they have in common is that they’re very funny and accept me for being me, and being a little quirky!
