Sometimes it takes something going wrong, to set you on the right path. At least that was the case for Jacqui Patterson.

Following her successful stint on the second season of Survivor, Jacqui was diagnosed with cancer.

“When I came off Survivor in 2017, I had a few shoulder issues and while I was getting that sorted, a friend noticed a spot on my shoulder, two weeks later I was diagnosed with grade 4 stage 2 melanoma,” she says.

“So that really woke me up, and then while I was doing rehab for my injury, I decided to train for another goal, I picked bodybuilding and gave it my everything – now I am living my best life at 52!”

That explains her incredibly shredded body, with Jacqui admitting that she came into All Stars in peak condition.

“When I got the call for All Stars I had been dieting for 13 weeks, I was about to compete.

So I was lean, I was strong, I was raring to go,” she says.

The hardest part was being away from her husband and home.

“I’ve been with my husband, Gaz, for about thirteen years and you do miss your home,” she says.

“Though he took himself on a two-week surfing trip when I was filming!”

When she’s not living the island life, Jacqui is a Byron Bay-based marriage celebrant and most recently officiated the ceremony between Survivor lovebirds Samantha Gash and Mark Wales.

“It was a beautiful wedding, and a really good reunion because there were about nine Survivor alumni from the show,” Jacqui laughs.
