Unhappy about being in the “friend zone”, Gabrielle held up “leave” at the commitment ceremony. But her husband Nasser tells TV WEEK there’s a reason he wasn’t throwing Gab down on the bed: he was feeling self-conscious because he was being filmed.

“When the cameras were on, it was just hard,” he says. “You get that shyness. You go back to your childhood: ‘Should I be doing this?'”

He says although he’s not normally a shy person, he can be, in certain situations.

“When there’s people around and there’s things happening all the time, you do become a little bit reserved,” he explains.

“I didn’t want to come across as eating her mouth or jumping on her. I’m a gentleman. I just wanted to come across as a gentleman.”

Nasser says he really wasn’t expecting Gab to write “leave”.

“My heart sank to the floor,” he admits. “I felt a little bit betrayed.”

He says he’d told Gab that if there were any big issues, they should talk them through.

“We never did that,” he adds. “I thought everything was okay, it was fine, we were still getting to know each other… honest to God, it was like someone punched me in the face.”

Although he knows Gab meant it to be a wake-up call, he felt it was the wrong kind of wake-up call.

“She could have just said it. She didn’t have to write it on national TV. I wanted to go, ‘What have I done?'”

After the commitment ceremony, Nasser says he felt like he was “on probation”. He had already been feeling worried about the idea of going to Gab’s place for the home stay, and this just added to his stress.

“I’ve never stayed at someone’s house,” he explains. “I was freaking out.”
