They were the ultimate MAFS underdogs we so badly wanted to work.

And despite all their issues, there was always a glimmer of hope for Married At First Sight‘s Ning Suriasing and Mark Scrivens.

But on Monday night’s episode, it all came crashing down during their final vows with Mark delivering the mother of all blows and officially calling it off with the hairdresser.

To say Ning was absolutely blind-sided by Mark’s decision would be an understatement.

Not only was she shocked, she was livid.

“Just stop. This is bulls—t,” Ning fumed as Mark tried to explain his decision, before she stormed away from the personal trainer.

But now that the dust has settled on that explosive moment, which was filmed in December last year, the pair have revealed they’ve both had time to heal and are now on friendly terms.

“After I arrived home, I messaged Mark because I was so confused by what had happened,” Ning told 9Honey Celebrity.

“It was really hard for me to get my head around the situation, I analysed everything we went through together and what we talked about on and off camera.”

While Mark says he and his former wife speak all the time now.

“In the first few days there was a fair bit of texting about the way it went, and we spoke in length about it a week later when the dust had settled and resolved a few things.”

“We have spoken a number of times since, but text most days now about the episodes that air and news articles about each other. Our relationship is very good. We text most days and send funny photos and memes all the time.”

“I respect her immensely from what she has been through in her life and how she deals with challenges and there is no animosity between us. There’s no reason to be. I think we both gave everything we had to this and were there for the right reasons but, in the end, we are friends and we always will be.”

As for Ning, she says she’s grateful for Mark and the experiment for helping her learn to show her vulnerable side.

“I entered the marriage crying and left it the same way. They say surrender and be vulnerable and it took me a while, but I did it.”

“We build these walls to protect ourselves from others but I should have built the walls to protect myself from me, for giving into myself,” she said.

Taking to Instagram after the episode, Ning opened up about her time on the show and how it had shaped her as a person.

“In the last couple of months I have learnt so much about myself, how to really love me, that it’s okay to be a little koo koo bananas, crying isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of compassion #thankyou #allworthit #lessonlearned #MAFS,” she penned.

“I hope I have taught you about the feel scales, to enjoy your food, to continue to be you, to feel all the feels and I hope one day you can say the L word love #ourjourney #MAFS.”

While Mark also shared a slew of thoughts on Instagram.

“Easily the hardest speech I’ve ever had to write/read. This was exaggerated after hearing her vows and knowing what was about to happen and watching her face whilst saying them,” he confessed.

Before admitting he took no pleasure in breaking Ning’s heart, “Gutted, absolutely gutted… Watching someone you care for walk away after hurting them, this was tough.”
