For someone who avoids watching reality TV, Dr Chris Brown is doing a darned good job of hosting I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! in the South African jungle alongside Julia Morris.

Chris says working on the show – now in its fifth season – is the “cream on top” of his veterinary career. But he can’t believe he ended up in the industry at all.

“I wasn’t a reality TV person at all,” Chris, 40, tells TV WEEK. “And I certainly never thought I’d host a reality TV show.”

For Chris, the jungle is different to everything else on TV, and that’s what attracted him to the role.

“We’re about having a laugh, first and foremost – and, hopefully, giving people [viewers] an escape,” he explains.

“No other reality show will just mock the celebrity contestants – and try to bring them down a notch or two!”

It certainly helps that Chris and his co-host Julia get along like a house on fire.

“When I found out Dr Chris was going to be the co-host, I went after it [the role] like a maniac,” Julia previously told TV WEEK.

“And, four years later, the feeling was clearly mutual.”

“We have a funny connection,” Chris reveals of their hilarious banter and close friendship.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here airs Monday to Thursday, and Sunday, 7.30pm, 10.
