Richie: No, I’m not nervous. Not nervous, it’s ah, it’s odd. It’s just such a weird scenario, you know, you go on a show like this again and go on some pathway to hopefully meet someone and then…
Alex: Like, I was glad I met you, Rich. Like I don’t – Like I was very glad I met you. But I just feel like seeing you here we haven’t spoken like I literally stopped answering your calls and I stopped talking to you.
Richie: I don’t think that’s how that happened. I think the last conversation, well the last text you sent me was you asking how I was and me not replying because I had to block you out of my life.
Alex: No, I don’t see it like that but sure, if that’s how it is, then sure. We didn’t speak for a long time. You say that you had to block me out of your life but you were the one that was coming to Melbourne…
Richie: Yeh, I was. I was coming to Melbourne all the time. I was flying around…
Alex: You weren’t coming to Melbourne all the time, Rich. That was partly the problem. When I needed you the most, when I needed you – and you know what I’m talking about…
Richie: Look Alex, I’ve explained to you in length, how are you supposed to ummm…how am I supposed to make dates and jump through hoops when it’s impossible, when you’re changing the goal posts every couple of days.
Alex: I’m talking about a specific time.
Richie: I know exactly what you’re talking about Alex and I know exactly what you’re trying to say and it’s not like that. We talked about this on the phone for hours in length.

Alex: Yeh, because I was hurt and I was upset.
Richie: Yeh, and completely out of my control.
Alex: How is it out of your control to get on a plane and come and see me during a really personal time that involved both of us.
Richie: Like I said Alex, you changed the date was it three, four times from the date…
Alex: Change the date? But that shouldn’t matter if I had to change the date that was out of my control.
Richie: But if you change it to a time when I can’t physically do it –
Alex: But why couldn’t you physically come.
Richie: Because I was away working, Alex. I was on a mine site.
Alex: So you couldn’t get on a plane knowing where I had to be and what I had to…
Richie: Like I said, Alex, I’ve been thinking about this a lot and I’ve gone over this conversation and I’ve argued in my own head over this many times and I’ve..I’ve come, ummm, I guess tell myself…
Alex: You’re at peace with it.
Richie: Yeh, I’m at peace knowing that I would’ve and was doing everything possible to make our relationship work.

Alex: But I barely saw you. You say you jumped through hoops but I barely saw you. I needed to see you more. I had a child that I wanted you to see more.
Richie: I sold my house. I was even looking at rental properties with you…
Alex: But you were selling your house anyway. It took you so long for you to actually do that and you even admitted to me…
Richie: It’s not like I could just get a buyer out of nowhere and be like ‘oh yeh, there they are’.
Alex: But we could have laid out the foundations in the meantime.
Richie: But your goal posts kept changing, Alex. This is what makes the whole thing so frustrating. Like at one point you were coming to Perth, at one point you were doing all this other stuff. You know, I just constantly kept supporting you and work with our relationship.
Alex: Supporting this… so where was the support?
Richie: Yeh, so I’d say mentally and constantly calling you and talking with you…
Alex: Constantly calling me…
Richie: We used to talk like what eight, nine, ten times all day – constant messages.
Alex: Yeh, we did. We spoke a lot on the phone but it’s more “presence”.

Richie: Yeh, yeh.
Alex: I needed more of your presence and I kept stressing that to you.
Richie: Yeh and I kept doing everything I could to be there. I flew to Melbourne so many times, over fifteen times I flew to Melbourne to see you. Umm…in fact, you came to Perth what, a couple of times and then five times you even cancelled, even showing up on the day you were supposed to arrive.
Alex: Yeh but given that I had family stuff, Rich….
Richie: Every time?
Alex: Rich, I had a lot of family stuff going on and I had a lot of stuff going on with myself.
Richie: Yeh, I know. Like I said, Alex, I’ve come to terms with it – I’m at peace with… all my actions…
Alex: Yeh I just wanted to… I just think we needed to have this conversation.
Richie: Yeh, yeh, absolutely. Like, we haven’t spoken since, ummm and you know exactly why and what happened – what I woke up to. Umm…I just can’t believe someone would do that to someone.
Alex: Me? Someone do something to you?
Richie: It’s pretty wild.
Alex: Do you actually want to go there, Rich? Because I feel like people would have a very big opinion of a woman being left alone to do something that involved both of us.
Richie: Don’t beat around the bush Alex, say it. Because you’re not going to like my response – because we did talk about, we did talk about the whole thing.

Richie: Because what you said to me, blew my mind. So if you want to go into it, Alex. We can. Again, I’ve had to come to peace with this. I’ve thought about this a lot, I tried so hard to make our relationship work.
Alex: You tried so hard to make our relationship work.
Richie: Yeh definitely, 100%.
Alex: So you don’t think that you left any room to grow to try that little bit harder?
Richie: Umm, so look, Alex. You can always say that you can do…
Alex: So you’re honestly sitting there and saying that you were perfect in our relationship. Because I know I wasn’t.
Richie: No one is perfect, Alex. Don’t put words in my mouth and try and say something that I’m not.
Alex: But the way you’re saying it, is: ‘I did this and I did that’.
Richie: Because I did. I did a lot, Alex. I did so much to keep our relationship going – I did everything possible.
Alex: Yeh, because you knew you couldn’t salvage it. Because you knew that after what happened, when I was left alone to go through something massive that no woman should have to…
Richie: That you wanted to do. It was your choice. You wanted to do it.
Alex: It was me. I actually can’t believe that you are telling me that it was me.
Richie: Yeh, you wanted to go down that pathway. You said to me, you wanted to focus on your AFL career. That was part of it.
Alex: No, I didn’t.

Richie: Yeh, exactly. That’s what I told myself.
Alex: So, you’re going to sit there and say honestly, that all of that was my decision and that…
Richie: No, no, we talked about it, because Alex, you’re a mother. I know that – clearly. I spoke to you in length about that. You’ve gone down that pathway; you know what is involved with that. We spoke in length about it. Again, I supported you…
Alex: But you knew what it did to me though. You even, said it yourself.
Richie: I supported you and your decisions and everything that you wanted to do, just to keep everything happy…
Alex: But where were you?
Richie: Alex, how are you supposed to click your fingers and I’m just supposed to appear places? You changed the goal posts so many times.
Alex: But it doesn’t matter! If you’re a man and you’re in that situation, you move mountains to be there for your partner.
Richie: But there’s achievable and there’s not achievable. Why couldn’t you just wait until I could be there.
Alex: Richie, you had 48 hours.
Richie: I don’t think it was 48 hours.
Alex: You did. You had 48 hours. Trust me. I remember.

Richie: Yeh, yeh. I know a lot of the things that you’re saying are interesting from that perspective.
Alex: I don’t want to fight with you.
Richie: Neither do I, and you said that in the text messages – you didn’t want to have an argument.
Alex: So now you’re just, see what you’re doing?
Richie: Yeh, I’ve come to peace with it Alex. I’m fine with it and it’s OK. I’m happy that you’re in a good spot. That I think you would have grown as a person.
Alex: Yeh, significantly.
Richie: So, it’s all good. I’ve put that to bed.
Alex: Ok, but I just needed to talk to you because we’re both here.
Richie: Look I’m [inaudible] and I didn’t want to get into any salacious details…
Alex: We’re not.
Richie: And I’m trying to stay quite composed and there’s a lot…
Alex: I think we’re doing a good job.
Richie: Yeh, like it’s such a weird scenario…
Alex: Yeh, it’s bizarre. But I just wanted you to be able to – I want to be comfortable – I don’t want it to be uncomfortable. I don’t have any ill feelings toward you. I’ve put it to rest. It’s been over a year. I think that you’re a great person and I think that you deserve to be here and find someone potentially, but I just, I didn’t want it to be uncomfortable.
Richie: Yeh and I don’t want it to be either. I just want you to be happy and do your own thing, so, we’re all good.
