The My Kitchen Rules family just got a little bigger this week with news of the arrival of a precious bundle of joy.

Contestant John Krasenstein took to Instagram on Tuesday to announce the birth of his and wife Chloe’s new daughter.

John, who competed on the most recent season of the Channel Seven reality series with his mother Lisa, wrote: “Welcome to the world little Poppy Krasenstein!”

He added: “Born on the 22nd of July 3:59pm 6 pounds 7. Mum and Bub are absolutely crushing it!”

John had previously revealed that he and Chloe had been trying for a baby since marrying three years ago – but it took them longer than expected.

“You say, ‘Oh, yeah – we’re going to have a baby; it’s going to be super-fun!'” he previously told TV WEEK.

“Then it actually becomes not very fun when things don’t go to plan. We’re hoping for better news soon.”

Meanwhile, John’s own birth was a more frightening affair, according to mum Lisa.

Speaking to TV WEEK in February this year, Lisa said: “I’m still traumatised.”

A day after John’s birth, Lisa was told he had a hole in his heart. The cardiologist advised her it would probably close up by itself. Instead, it got bigger.

“They decided at six weeks old that he would have to have surgery,” she recalled. “They didn’t do the surgery until he was 22 months old, because it’s easier to operate on a toddler than on a newborn baby.”

The surgery went for nearly six hours.

“They actually opened up his chest and stopped his heart from beating. It was really awful and a really tough time in our lives.”

Happily, John grew up to be a healthy, strong football player.

“He’s really fit now,” Lisa said proudly. “Look at him – a healthy, beautiful boy.”
