Mark Zuckerberg has announced that he and his wife Dr Priscilla Chan are expecting baby number two.
Alongside a series of childhood photos of himself and his 32-year-old wife, a pediatrician, the Facebook CEO explained that they will soon welcome another baby girl – a sister for their 15-month-old daughter Maxima, “Max!”
“Priscilla and I are happy to share we’re expecting another baby girl!” writes the 32-year-old tech giant. “After our difficult experience having Max, we weren’t sure what to expect or whether we’d be able to have another child. When Priscilla and I first found out she was pregnant again, our first hope was that the child would be healthy.”
“My next hope was that it would be a girl,” the post continues. “I cannot think of a greater gift than having a sister and I’m so happy Max and our new child will have each other.”
“I grew up with three sisters and they taught me to learn from smart, strong women,” Mark writes. “They weren’t just my sisters but some of my best friends. They’ve gone on to write books, excel at performance, music, sports, cooking and their careers. They showed me how to compete and still laugh together afterwards.”
“Priscilla grew up with two sisters and they taught her the importance of family, caring for others and hard work. They supported each other as first generation college students and in their careers in medicine and business. They have so many inside jokes — the kind only siblings can understand.”
“We are all better people because of the strong women in our lives — sisters, mothers and friends. We can’t wait to welcome our new little one and do our best to raise another strong woman.”
Fittingly, the announcement comes just one day after International Women’s Day.
Mark announced the birth of his first child, gorgeous little Max, in a moving statement on Facebook, which took the form of a touching letter to their daughter.
In most families the arrival of a new baby means a few dollars might get put aside for when they turn 18, but when you’re a Chan-Zuckerberg it’s a $45 billion investment ensuring the progress of humanity.
The news of baby Max didn’t focus on the birth, how much she weighed, or what time she was born – but rather, in true Zuckerberg style, the attention was given to a cause much greater than them.
“Dear Max, your mother and I don’t yet have the words to describe the hope you give us for the future,” the piece began.
“Your new life is full of promise, and we hope you will be happy and healthy so you can explore it fully. You’ve already given us a reason to reflect on the world we hope you live in.”

“Today your mother and I are committing to spend our lives doing our small part to help solve…we begin the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative to join people across the world to advance human potential and promote equality for all children in the next generation,” they explained.
“We will give 99% of our Facebook shares — currently about $45 billion — during our lives to advance this mission,” Mark and Priscilla added.
What a stunning tribute.
Priscilla and Mark first met at a frat party when they attended Harvard University, and no doubt their past selves couldn’t even imagine what they’d go onto to achieve.
