Woman in her 70s becomes world’s oldest mum

An Indian couple both in their 70s who have been married for 46 years have welcomed a baby boy.

A married Indian couple have welcomed to the world a healthy baby boy, Arman.

It was the first child for the 72-year-old woman Daljinder Kaur and her 79-year-old husband Mohinder Singh Gill.

Mrs Kaur went through multiple rounds of IVF for the miracle baby and gave birth by caesarean section last month. Little Arman weighed in at just 2kg.

She gave birth at the National Fertility Centre in Haryana, a facility that offers fertility treatment to women after menopause.

While Daljinder’s exact birth date is unknown to her, she says she is seven years younger than her husband, making her the world’s oldest mum.

Both farmers from Amritsar in Punjab, she and her husband had given up hope of having a child of their own and viewed it as a holy curse that they could never conceive.

She told the UK Telegraph: “Everyone asked me to adopt a baby but I never wanted to. Now I have my own child.”
