Terminally ill baby defies doctor’s predictions

We have smothered this little one with love and kisses and will continue to do so every moment we get.

A baby born with Down syndrome and an inoperable brain tumour has defied the odds, surviving for more than two months.

Parents Erika and Stephen Jones were told their daughter probably had Down syndrome 18 weeks into the pregnancy. At 30 weeks, they discovered she had an inoperable brain tumour that would claim her life.

Abigail Noelle Jones was born on August 6 and despite grave predictions, she is still alive and thriving more than two months later.

Erika and Stephen don’t know how much longer Abigail will live for and are determined to fill whatever time she has left with love, hiring photographer Mary Huszcza to capture some intimate images of their bittersweet family life.

“We knew little Abby’s life had a purpose, no matter how long or short it was,” Erika wrote in a blog post on Mary’s website.

“We have smothered this little one with love and kisses and will continue to do so every moment we get.”

Here are some of the heartbreaking images.
