None of us can recall the moment our fathers fell in love with us as babies but when it happens it happens hard and fast.
Mothers have months of getting used to their newborns being around, literally hanging out inside them, but father’s don’t really get the physical sense of their child until they get to hold them for the first time. That is the moment that interests Krista Evans.
As a photographer Krista has captured over 50 births but the Canadian snapper says it’s the moment when a father meets his child that steals her heart.
“As a birth photographer I have the unbelievable pleasure of capturing a baby’s first moment earthside,” Krista tells BabyCenter.
“The moment they take their first breath. The moment they gaze deeply into their mama’s eyes for the first time, and what may be one of my favourite moments to capture, the moment that this little babe’s dad breathes a sigh of relief and readies himself for this next part of the journey.”
Krista says this moment looks different for every dad.
“Some are so full of excitement they cannot contain their whoops and hollers as they unabashedly throw their arms up into the air in utter joy,” Krista says.
“Some are so overcome with love that the tears just stream down their face.”
“This moment of complete wonder often lasts but a minute and I feel so truly blessed to call it my job to freeze that space in time.”
