100-year-old golfer has the secret to a happy, healthy life

And it’s actually quite simple!

If you’re looking for the secret to living longer, you’ll find it on the golf course. At least, that’s where you’ll find 100-year-old Joyce Caffee who claims she knows it.

The great-grandmother is a lover of the sport for more than 80 years, and visits the golf course twice a week. Speaking to Today, she said: “The exercise and the feeling of being outdoors and doing something, trying to improve yourself… It’s disappointing to not be able to play as well as I used to, but I still enjoy it very much.”

Apart from her twice-weekly golf sessions, the Arizona native leads a happy, active lifestyle, going for daily walks or swimming at the pool.

She said: “I try to exercise every day. I don’t believe in doing a lot of sitting. I think that ruins a good many women’s health.”

So, what’s her secret for her long, fulfilling life? Well, while she’s had some health issues along the way, she said the answer is pretty simple. “Probably being born to the right parents,” she said. “I was fortunate enough to have parents who understood nutrition and exercise.”

Oh, and you should probably stay away from the sweet stuff.

“From an early age, I knew that sugar was really a poison and not a good food. Consequently, I never had much sugar in my diet and I still don’t,” she advised. But she won’t say no to a sneaky glass of wine with dinner.

Her mind’s still sharp, too. Joyce works on two crossword puzzles a day, and usually finishes one or two books a week.

And hey, age is just a number after all. “The shell looks a little different, but I’m still me,” she said.
