Victoria and David Beckham have been together for 20 years, which in Hollywood years, is practically a lifetime.

Posh Spice and the former football star tied the knot in July 1999 and have since gone on to have four children together – Brooklyn, 20, Romeo, 17, Cruz, 14, and Harper, eight.

Now Victoria has opened up in a rare interview about what her marriage is really like and revealed what she first thought of David when they met all those years ago.

“The kids are our priority, everything we do revolves around the children. We both work really hard, we love what we do professionally.” Victoria said on the US Today Show, in an interview to promote her new makeup line, Victoria Beckham Beauty.

“We support each other, we’re very lucky to have found each other and lucky that we’re growing together,” she said.

And speaking of her first encounter with David, Victoria said: “It was love at first sight.”

When asked the secret to sustaining her decades-long relationship with David, Victoria said: “communication is key”.

Despite both having busy careers of their own, she said their entire life revolves around their four children.

“We’re very present in the kids’ lives. We love our family, everything we do revolves around them”, she explained.

“I think it’s just being focused, working hard, having a great support team around us. And both of our parents help out with the kids.”

Like so many working mothers, Victoria says she too feels torn between her booming career and looking after her children.

But despite the typical “mum guilt”, she says she tries to push through, and recalled a piece of advice given to her by acclaimed fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg.

“You feel guilty when you’re a working mum. I’m sure there are so many mums watching this right now who feel torn,” she said.

“You want to be the best professional, follow your dreams but you also want to be the best mum. Diane said to me, don’t feel guilty, it’s ageing!”

And if you’ve ever wondered why Victoria never smiles in photos – in fact, the stony faced “smize” has become her signature red carpet pose – the 45-year-old says she is simply smiling “on the inside”.

“I smile on the inside! I’m so lucky, I’m so blessed, I love what I do, that I can empower women through fashion or beauty, make them feel like the best version of themselves. So I am smiling inside and outside!”
