Pensioner buys winning lotto ticket

A husband and wife duo, aged in their 60s, will reportedly take home $1 million after buying the country’s only division one Lotto ticket.

The couple, who hail from Port Kennedy in Western Australia, used their last $11 to purchase the winning ticket after the woman dreamt that she’d won the lotto.

We guess dreams really do come true…

“When you’re living pension to pension it isn’t easy,” the wife said in an interview with Perth Now.

“I was surprised my hubby let me use our last bit of change to buy the ticket but it was a double win day,” she said.

“I didn’t know what to do. I wanted to tell my husband straight away but I was scared the shock of it would give him a heart attack.”

Before the serendipitous win came their way, the pensioners were close to losing their home as they could no longer afford their mortgage repayments.

“When I rechecked the numbers I immediately realised we could afford our next mortgage payment,” the husband said.

The winning ticket, which will see the couple take home a whopping $1 million, was purchased at the St Clair Pharmacy and News in Port Kennedy, Western Australia.

The store’s owner, George Salib, explained that he knew the couple had been suffering financially and was tickled pink to hear that they had become millionaires overnight.

“It couldn’t have gone to a more deserving couple.”
