There is only so much sadness the world can take.

After the loss of some of our brightest stars, most recently Carrie Fisher and George Michael, one brave soul is flipping 2016 as he prepares to protect the shining beacon of light that is Betty White.

Demetrios Hrysikos is an American native who refuses to let this year claim the 94-year-old comedic actress.

Taking a stand, he has set up a GoFundMe page, which allows the 36-year-old to, quite literally, protect Betty White… FROM EVERYTHING.

“Help 2016 catch these hands if it goes anywhere near Betty White,” the Golden Girls fan penned.

With an aim to raise $10,000 the Californian native shared a heartfelt request to all on the internet.

“Help 2016 catch these hands if it goes anywhere near Betty White! If she’s okay with it I will fly to where ever Betty White is and keep her safe till Jan 1 , 2017,” he pledged.

“Now , assuming she doesn’t want a strange Greek standing guard outside her door all monies will be donated to the Spartanburg little theater to help craft new stars of stage and screen to carry mantle of the legends that have left is this year.”

Within one day $4,400 was raised… and counting!

Demetrios shared an update, expressing his shock over the positive reaction to his plea.

“Hello again! Wow , what a day. I’m at a loss for words for the support this little post has garnered,” he began.

“It’s hard to keep up with all the tags but we’re getting the word out and that’s good! I’ve been in contact with the little theater and have some news. I’ve decided to up the goal of the campaign because at this point I don’t see a point in capping the amount of money donated. Also , I’ve decided to end the campaign at midnight on New Year’s Eve.”

“One way or the other, for a worthy , cause 2016 will end on a good note. In the days following the new year I will appear on Your Carolina to present the check to the head of the Spartanburg Little Theater.”

Adding, “Every red cent minus go fund me’s fees. I had no idea this would get this big and it’s been a lot to take in, but I’m glad it did. Carrie Fisher as much as Betty was a driving force in this and with the news of her mother’s recent illness I’d like to hope we’re all keeping her and her family in our thoughts.”

Today USA chatted to the charming American about his unique aim.

He admitted he created the page in “in six minutes” to give his friends a laugh amidst all the loss 2016 had faced.

Speaking about Betty, who he describes as a “national treasure”, he said, “When I was little, I’d come home from school and my grandmother would always be watching ‘Golden Girls'”.

“She didn’t speak a word of English, but she loved it. We watched every episode.”

“Don’t tell anyone, but I’m kind of a fan myself.”

Demetrios, between you, me and the internet, you’ve now got a brand new fan!

Hats off to our new 2016 hero!
