Sweet 16! Happy wedding anniversary to Posh and Becks

A look back at brand Beckham's amazing marriage, as David and Victoria celebrate 16 years of wedded bliss.

Look how far they've come! They were the ultimate '90s power couple and their star has only continued to soar.

1999 – it was the era of butterfly clips, platform shoes and mood rings. It was also the year a Spice Girl named Victoria Adams married footballer David Beckham and thus Posh and Becks were officially spawned.

Following a romantic courtship, which began in 1997 after they hit it off at a charity football match, the pair tied the knot on July 4, 1999 with one of the most decadent weddings of the decade.

No expense was spared for their big day, which was held at the Luttrellstown Castle in Ireland and speculated to cost around £500,000.

Sitting happily on their golden thrones as man and wife, it was clear from the start Victoria and David Beckham were going to be a force of nature.

16 years later and the genetically blessed duo, who share four beautiful children, have become pop culture icons unto themselves. Despite the very glamorous nature of their existence, at the core of their relationship is pure and simple love.

“I like Victoria for herself… I’d like her if she worked in Tesco,” David, who officially retired from football in 2013, once sweetly remarked of his wife to The Guardian.

And the feeling is mutual: “He’s got more personality than people think and he’s very deep and spiritual,” accomplished fashion designer Victoria gushed of her guy.

It doesn’t get much better than retro Posh and Becks. Perhaps the only couple in the world that can pull off matching white wedding ensembles and gold thrones to boot.

The couple that dresses together stays together! David and Vic have never strayed from this mantra throughout their long-lasting relationship and we are all the better for it!

And it seems style stalking your significant other’s hair do is also appropriate.

Together, forever: “People can say what they like. But me and Victoria will always stay together as husband and wife … We’ll always stick together,” Becks vouched back in 2004.

“My wife picked me out of a soccer sticker book. And I chose her off the telly… It felt straight away like we’d always been meant to be together,” David once mused of how they first met. Well, it’s a bit more innovative than Tinder!

VB and David rub shoulders with Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith during their stint in LA in 2007.

The power couple are the proud parents to four gorgeous children – Brooklyn, 16, Romeo, 12, Cruz, 10, and daughter Harper, 3.

“First and foremost, I feel very lucky to have the family I have, so I would like my family to stay happy and healthy,” the mother-of-four explained told Glamour Magazine.

“If you love someone, you want to treat them, surprise them, remind them how you feel, whether that means a weekend away somewhere, or a bowl of fruit in the morning laid out in the shape of a heart. I know Victoria thinks I’m romantic like that,” Becks confessed in his autobiography of spoiling his Mrs.

“I wouldn’t be where I am without David. He gives me the security and encouragement to do what I want to do… I do the same for him,” the designer told Vogue.

Despite their large family, these two always make time for each other. “You have to have fun together. We have to spend time together as a couple and that’s what’s important,” David explained to People.

The Beckham brood are the best behaved children in Tinseltown, a true testament to the star’s parenting.

Posh and Becks share a cuddle at David’s 40th birthday celebrations in Marrakesh earlier this year.

“What’s David’s role? David looks good, that’s what David does. David looks good, and I’m the funny one, that’s what I hear constantly. But I keep telling him that looks fade,” Victoria has joked.

As their star continues to rise, these two never take themselves too seriously. “We’ve got matching dogs, matching watches, similar wardrobes, matching Jags. I know it’s tacky, but it makes me laugh,” Posh has previously told.

They’re not just fashion icons! In 2003 David was awarded a OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) from The Queen. A proud moment indeed.

Is that a smile we see creeping up on your face, Posh? We’d be pretty happy too if we got to wrap our arms around that rugged stud.
