Dad hilariously forbids his four-year-old from dating

You're not getting a boyfriend, you're going to be a nun!

A Scottish father has recorded and shared the incredible moment his four-year-old daughter decided that she wanted to begin dating.

Feisty little Grace had clearly made up her mind that she was ready to jump in the dating pool but her father, John Tierney from Blantyre, was not having it, and decided it was time to lay down some ground rules.

The 30-second clip, which was shared on his Twitter page, begins with John, a 37-year-old a shop fitter, sitting in the front seat of the family car, arguing into the camera as his daughter quarrels on from the back.

Their squabble begins with Grace asking, “What if I want to get a boyfriend?”

“Daddy will break his legs,” John replies simply. “And guess what will happen after that? See your boyfriend’s Daddy? Daddy will take him hostage and keep him in a cupboard.”

Gracie, who clearly isn’t getting her way at this point, then shouts back, “No, listen. I want a boyfriend. I’m getting a boyfriend.”

“You’re not getting a boyfriend, you’re going to be a nun,” John tells her, while attempting to keep a straight face.

“You’re going to work for Jesus. This is who you work for,” he says, pulling out his cross necklace. “End of story.”

Little Grace will celebrate her 5th birthday next month.

A very amused Twitter user and fellow father left a comment on the clip, saying, “We like minded fathers got to stick together and promote the cause #DADD. Dads against daughters dating #WorkingForJesus.”

John agreed with the user and replied, “Trying to raise her to be strong minded could be a mistake, she’s a wee star to be fair. It’s a battle we may lose but one we must fight.”

It’s not a huge surprise that the clip has absolutely taken off. With over 61,000 views since it’s upload, it seems that many fathers around the world share the same protective sentiment.

“Love u more than life itself baba,” the proud papa penned.

Speaking about the video to the Metro, John revealed how it all began.

“We were just heading to the park so Grace could have a go on her new bike, and she waved at two boys who walked past the car,” he began.

“I joked that she should stop waving at boys because they were smelly, and she then told me she wanted a boyfriend.”

“I started recording her responses because she is such a wee character – she is very much a sponge and absorbs everything that people says.”

“The video has gone a bit mental – we got stopped in the supermarket yesterday by someone who had seen it. I never expected it to go this mad.”

Thanks for the Friday fun, John!
