The inspiring Aussie survivor tackles one of the most challenging treks – the Inca Trail – and it’s all for a good cause!

After recently announcing her beautiful engagement news with Michael Hoskin, Turia Pitt has embarked on the trip of a lifetime to help raise money for a charity very close to her heart.

28-year-old Turia has been joined by members of Interplast and Woman’s Day’s own entertainment editor, Shari Nementzik, to hike the incredible Inca Trail in Peru.

So far the team have already raised nearly $300,000 for Interplast – a not-for-profit organisation which provides free reconstructive surgery for people who have suffered from cleft palates or burns around the world.

A determined Turia, who suffered burns to 65 per cent of her body during a fire in 2011, has been training in preparation for the journey and it looks like all her hard work has paid off with the mining engineer sharing a slew of snaps from her incredible trip.

See ya later, Australia! A quick airport selfie before the fun begins.

Our own entertainment editor Shari Nementzik had the pleasure of trekking alongside Turia on this incredible journey!

“Day one on #TuriasIncaTrailChallenge and I’m frothing! Together we’ve raised well over 300k for @Interplastanz, woo hoo!” Turia penned alongside this shot.

“Day two on #TuriasIncaTrailChallenge. Does anyone else think that my @mountaindesigns shirt looks like the Batman symbol??!”

Ahead of her trek, the 28-year-old underwent oxygen training.

“Everyone dies, but not everyone lives”. Quote from master freediver David Mesnard. Thank you David for showing me how to push my limits #OceanDivine.”

Since surviving her horrific accident in 2011, Turia has gone on to raise thousands of dollars for Interplast. Last year, the humanitarian walked the Great Wall of China with all proceeds going towards the not-for-profit organisations.

During an appearance on the Today Show Turia explained of the walk: “It’s about 100-kilometers but it’s the vertical distance that kills you! Cause you’re up at altitude there. You’ve got to acclimatse.”

“How bloody cute is this alpaca! And then I had grilled alpaca for dinner,” the motivational speaker penned next to this snap.

And some of the breathtaking scenery they’ve enjoyed.
